This past summer, as part of a New England-wide collaboration, tick researchers from the University of Rhode Island visited your property on Thomas St, N. Kingstown two times to sample for ticks. Each time, we took 20 samples (10 sampling minutes) and counted all the ticks we encountered. Partners at UMass also tested ticks for the presence of disease-causing germs. While our focus was on tiny nymph-stage blacklegged ticks, at many properties we found other types of ticks as well. Below, we report on what we found at your property:
Tick Abundance (reported as ticks per hour = # ticks collected x 3)
· Nymph-stage blacklegged ticks: (Ixodes scapularis) : 0
· Adult-stage blacklegged ticks: (Ixodes scapularis) : 0
· American dog ticks: (Dermacentor variabilis) : 0
· Lone star ticks: (Amblyomma americanum) : 0
· Longhorned ticks: (Hemaphysalis longicornis) : 0
· Other ticks: 0
